Kid Funnies

February 3, 2016:
Today Porter asked for some of his birthday cake after he ate all his lunch. When I was bringing it to him he said, "Um, mom, you need to sing to me."
me: no I don't. I'm not going to sing to you every day, silly.
Porter: I'm not silly. I'm just a human. Except when I'm sad and I cry. Then I'm not a human.
me: oh really? What are you when you're sad and cry?
Porter: just a Christmas tree.

January 27, 2016
 Porter was in a particularly grumpy mood today. He told me "After my lunch, I'm going to bed until winter is over!" Then later on, "That's it! I'm pinching Grant!" And Brooke answered the phone and took a message for the first time this afternoon. After she hung up: "That was amazing! I can't believe I did that!"

 Brooke tonight told me she wants to move to California because she heard in a song there is gold there. She also said when she finds the gold and becomes rich she'll be able to go to the dollar store and buy whatever she wants

 Apparently when we told porter to go wait by the car until we were ready, he heard "go play in the neighbors empty garbage can that tipped over."

Porter's "SUPER" 4th Birthday

Four seems like such a big-boy age. And Porter certainly likes to remind me that he's the big brother around the house and can help me around the house. Porter tries his hardest to keep up with Brooke and sometimes gets frustrated when he's still just a little too young to do some of the things big sis gets to do. He'll still take a nap every once in a while, especially if we're in the car.

Porter had his 4 year old check up and although I can't remember the exact numbers (and have misplaced his sticker) I do recall that he is just above the 50th percentile for height and right at the 50th for weight. Porter gained 4 pounds from his last check up a year ago!

Porter is my sweet boy who loves to give hugs and kisses and tells me "mom, you're my best friend!" He likes to sit in my lap to read stories and likes to sing me songs he's learned. He is still learning how to share and get along with other kids. Mostly he does fine but he does have a grouchy streak in him--if he's in one of his moods he'll tell random people at the grocery store/library/in the street "I don't like you!" if they even come near to him. Today a lady at the store called him sweetheart and Porter replied "I'm NOT your sweetheart!"  We have lots of talks about using your manners and being polite. It's a work in progress. Usually his mood has a lot to do with how recently it's been since he's eaten.

Porter has a HUGE imagination. He loves to play pretend and build forts. He also loves all things superheroes. Since 4 years old is the age my kids get their first friend party, I knew Porter would love a superhero party.

He invited a few friends to come over to play. We read super hero stories, decorated superhero masks and shields and played "pin spiderman in his web"

Then it was time for cupcakes

The kids spent the rest of the time enjoying playing superheroes in the basement

When each kid left, Porter gave them a treat to take home

 We love our Porter-man and think he's a SUPER kid!

The next day (February 2) was Porter's actual birthday and we had a family party that night: Pizza for dinner and a spiderman cake for dessert. He got a few presents from the family.

 Of course as soon as he opened his new spiderman jammies he had to immediately change into them.

Porter bring so much joy and laughter into our house--our lives would be so dull without him!

Grant is 15 months!

 Grant turned 15 months old on January 29. He had his check up and weighs 19.15 pounds (5th percentile) and is 31 inches tall (above 50th percentile). He is finally getting another tooth--his top right tooth--making the total tooth count a whopping 3! Even though he so small weight wise, he loves to eat! He is constantly signing "milk" which he uses interchangeably as milk or eat. He will also occasionally sign "more" and "all done" (but mostly when he's done eating he just starts throwing his food on the floor) After he's done with meal, he'll come over to where Blake and I are eating and beg for food off our plates. And since he's the baby and he's totally spoiled, we usually give in and just feed him from our plates. He went through a horrible sleeping pattern in January where he'd wake up randomly during the night screaming his head off. I'd go in, thinking something was wrong or he was sick, and he'd just be so mad! He'd push away from me if I tried to hold him. If I tried to give him his binky or a drink he'd throw it on the floor. It got to the point where I just started to ignore him (the best I could amid the screaming) because going in and trying to help him didn't do any good. He's finally come out of it--thank goodness! And is sleeping through the night once again. He's a super napper too and will wait patiently in his bed for me to come get him when nap time is over. He's so friendly and loves to play peek a boo with us and with any stranger he sees around town.

Grant is also a climber. We have to be careful to push in the kitchen chairs or he'll get on the table. And sometimes even if they're pushed in, that doesn't stop him from trying anyway!

 

 Grant's big accomplishment earlier in the month was walking! He's taken about 5 or 6 unassisted steps, but since then he's shown almost no interest in walking anymore. I'm sure he'll warm up to it soon. At his check up, the doctor suggested we encourage him to walk. I nodded in agreement, but in my mind I was like "I'm okay if isn't walking right now" Besides the fact that I'm afraid what mischief he'll get in with two free hands, I want him to stay my baby just a little while longer.

Like I said, Grant is our super eater. He loves when we make pop-corn.

 He also loves his books. Especially the touchy-feely ones or lift the flap. When I show him a regular book, he always tries to touch the pages like there should be texture or a flap and then when there's not, throws it on the floor.

 More walking practice

 Love this boy of mine and he loves his baths! In the tub Grant plays with little plastic ball. He tries to get the ball into the drain hole and doesn't understand why the ball just floats to the top when he lets it go. He keeps trying and trying.

 And finally, Grant observes his brother and sister playing outside while he's stuck in the house. He loves to lick the glass while he watches.

 Grant totally rocks his baby mullet.

Oh baby boy, you are at such a fun stage right now. I can just see the way your eyes light up when you discover something new. You love going down the slide, wrestling with daddy, and rolling or throwing the ball back and forth. You are very curious and I never know what you're getting into next!
